Coldstream, small town, Scottish Borders, SE Scotland, on the English border. General Monck raised troops there in 1660 for his march into England that resulted in the restoration of Charles II to the throne. The regiment became known as the Coldstream Guards, one of the regiments of guards of the royal household. Coldstream, like Gretna Green Gretna Green, village, Dumfries and Galloway, S Scotland, on the border with England.
