Fleetwood, town (1991 pop. 27,899), Lancashire, NW England, on Morecambe Bay at the mouth of the Wyre estuary. Fleetwood, a port, trades and has a ferry service with the Isle of Man and Belfast. Sir Peter Hesketh Fleetwood founded the town in 1836 and developed it into a trading port and seaside resort. Industries include fishing, computer production, plastics, radio-valve assembly, and shoe manufacture. Rossall public school, founded in 1844, is in Fleetwood. How to thank TFD for its existence?
