Jambi or Djambi (both: jäm`bē), city (1990 est. pop. 340,066), SE Sumatra, capital of Jambi prov., Indonesia, a port at the head of navigation on the Hari River. It is the shipping and commercial center of an area producing oil, rubber, and timber. Jambi Province Univ. is there. |

The haze, caused mostly by farmers and plantation owners setting fires to clear land, has forced many flights to be delayed or cancelled in Indonesia in recent days, with five cancellations in the Sumatra island province of Jambi on Tuesday. Aker Kvaerner, Lysaker, Norway has signed a contract with Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) for the modernization of three fiber lines in Indonesia, one at the Jambi mill and two at the Perawang mill. As of September 30, 2006 the combined gross daily production from 14 wells including those operated by The Meridian Resource & Exploration, LLC and Manti Jambi, Inc. |
