Liber (lī`bər), in Roman religion, god of fertility and wine. He was usually identified with Bacchus, the Latin equivalent of Dionysus. His consort Libera was identified with Persephone or Ariadne. Liber and Libera had a famous cult on the Aventine Hill in Rome in connection with Ceres. The festival Liberalia Liberalia (lĭbərā`lēə), in Roman religion, festival of Liber and Libera.
