Mbandaka (əmbändä`kä), formerly Coquilhatville (kôkēyävēl`), city (1984 pop. 137,291), capital of Équateur province, W Congo (Kinshasa), a port on the Congo River. It is a commercial and transportation center and has tanning and fishing industries. |

They house a copper Nkundo anklet from Mbandaka, an Akan cosmetic box, two Asante disk pendants and an Ebrie, Cote d'Ivoire hair ornament (akrafokonmu), an Akan crown with gold cowrie shells attached on a black velvet cloth, a Kwaku Dabow female figure, an Akan finial, and an Akan staff with finial depicting a mourner at the bed of the deceased. A case-control study during an outbreak of Salmonella Mbandaka in 1996 employed CATI to interview 15 case-patients and 45 controls; contaminated peanut butter was implicated (2). On 6 February, an advance team of the Secretary-General's investigative team probing violations of human rights in the Democratic Republic of the Congo during the campaign against former President Mobuto Seseko returned to Mbandaka to re-establish a camp dismantled there in December 1997. |
