Oneonta (ōnēŏn`tə), city (1990 pop. 13,954), Otsego co., E central N.Y., on the Susquehanna River, in a farm area W of the Catskills; settled c.1780, inc. as a city 1909. Oneonta grew after the coming of the railroad in 1865. Mobile medical laboratories and clinics, plastics, laboratory apparatus and glass, and electronic items are produced.
