Saint John's University

Saint John's University, main campus at Jamaica, New York City; Roman Catholic; coeducational; established 1870 as St. John's College. Its present name was adopted in 1954. It is the largest Catholic university in the country. A second campus (est. 1931 as Notre Dame College of Staten Island) was added in 1971. The Institute of Asian Studies is affiliated.
