Chemical Burns

A chemical burn occurs when living tissue is exposed to any of six types of chemical substance. Acids, bases, oxidizers, solvents, and reducing agents can all cause chemical burns without the presence of a heat source. Burns may occur right away, though they may not be immediately evident. Theodore Roosevelt Shot in the Chest While Campaigning (1912)

During a bid for the presidency in 1912, Roosevelt was shot by saloonkeeper John Schrank. The bullet lodged in his chest after penetrating a steel eyeglass case and a folded copy of the 50-page speech he was carrying in his jacket, but he refused to go to the hospital until after he had delivered his scheduled speech. Sukkot (2019)

In the Biblical account of their escape from Egypt, the Jews, led by Moses, wandered in the desert for 40 years. For much of the time they lived in huts, or sukkot, made of wooden frames covered with branches or hay. The festival of Sukkot commemorates this period in Jewish history. The traditional way of observing Sukkot is to build a sukkah and live in it during the seven-day festival. A major part of the festival is the four species: a palm branch, citron, three myrtle twigs, and two willow branches. These are tied together and waved at different points in the service. More...
