pointillism

In painting, the practice of applying small strokes or dots of contrasting colour to a surface so that from a distance they blend together. The term (and its synonym, divisionism) was first used to describe the paintings of Georges Seurat. See also Camille Pissarro; Paul Signac.

The latest commercial, "Paintings," is an animated montage of the whale depicted in five different styles of painting including impressionism, pointillism, cubism and surrealistic abstract styles.
Her specialty is pointillism, an offshoot of impressionism developed in the late 19th century in which tiny dots create an image only visible from a distance.
